Memphis Fill-In Met Gets First Gig in Arkansas

Brittany Bell, a fill-in meteorologist for WMC-TV in Memphis, Tenn., has been hired by ABC/CW affiliates KHBS/KHOG-TV as a meteorologist/reporter in the Fort Smith-Fayetteville-Springdale-Rogers market.

Bell will anchor the station’s weathercasts on weekends and report during the week, according to a press release provided to Arkansas TV News.

Tampa Morning Anchor Moves to Minnesota

Weekend morning anchor Ellen McNamara left Tampa ABC affiliate WFTS after three years at the station.

She’ll be taking a job with KSTP-TV in the Minneapolis-St. Paul market, starting April 23.

Statewide Newscast Planned for Arkansas Stations

In Arkansas, Fort Smith-Fayetteville-Springdale-Rogers, Little Rock-Pine Bluff, Monroe-El Dorado, NBC, Nexstar on April 4, 2012 at 10:45 am

Four Arkansas stations owned by Nexstar Broadcasting will soon be pooling their resources together to provide content for a statewide newscast that will also air on the four stations.

TVNewser reports KARK in the Little Rock market, KNWA in the Fort Smith-Fayetteville-Springdale-Rogers market, KTVE in the Monroe, La.-El Dorado market and KTAL in Texarkana will air the newscast at noon, titled “Arkansas Today.”

News Director Out at Mississippi Station?

Cable Company Says FOX Forced Them to Drop Affiliate From South Mississippi Lineup

After Tuesday, April 3, Cable One subscribers in Mobile, Ala., will no longer receive WALA-TV on their lineup, but it’s not the cable company’s fault.

That’s what a representative said in a release sent to the Sun Herald newspaper Friday.

Legendary Gainesville TV Personality Resigns Because of “Family Reasons”

Bob Williams, noon anchor and promotions manager with WCJB-TV, has resigned effective March 30.

The 56-year-old Williams told the Gainesville Sun his decision was not because of any problems at the station, but rather family issues that prompted the choice.

East Tennessee Station Hires Anchor And Reporter

WCYB, a Tri-Cities-TN-VA NBC affiliate, has hired two new broadcast journalists.

TVNewser reports Julie Newman will co-anchor the 5:30 and 11 p.m. newscasts beginning Wednesday, April 4. Newman previously worked at Blue Ridge PBS as a producer and host.

New Orleans Station to Launch Earlier Morning Newscast

WWL-TV

WWL-TV, the CBS affiliate for the New Orleans market, will soon be airing a much earlier newscast to complement its morning show lineup.

The Times-Picayune reports the station will begin a 4:30 a.m. newscast starting tomorrow (April 2). Anchoring the extra half-hour will be Mike Hoss, Laura Buchtel and Christina Leavenworth initially, as well as Melanie Hebert in the summer.

Little Rock Morning Anchor Signs Off After 21 Years

Longtime morning anchor Pamela Smith has ended her career at Little Rock-Pine Bluff ABC affiliate KATV after 21 years at the station.

In a farewell article on the station’s website, Smith said she felt “tremendously blessed to have been in a field that I have enjoyed [for that long].”
