Hattiesburg Gets New ABC Affiliate

The Hattiesburg-Laurel market has a new channel on the dial, thanks to an agreement with Raycom Media and ABC.

The new affiliate will be carried on a subchannel of WDAM, the NBC affiliate for the market.

Cable Company Says FOX Forced Them to Drop Affiliate From South Mississippi Lineup

After Tuesday, April 3, Cable One subscribers in Mobile, Ala., will no longer receive WALA-TV on their lineup, but it’s not the cable company’s fault.

That’s what a representative said in a release sent to the Sun Herald newspaper Friday.

Some who’ve been in television news for decades can remember when affiliate stations were actually paid monthly by the networks. Today’s story turns that old practice right on its head.

Management with the FOX network said this week it may drop some affiliates if the local television stations there won’t pay FOX a percentage of what’s called “retrans,” or retransmission fees, according to Bloomberg.
