Longtime morning anchor Pamela Smith has ended her career at Little Rock-Pine Bluff ABC affiliate KATV after 21 years at the station.

In a farewell article on the station’s website, Smith said she felt “tremendously blessed to have been in a field that I have enjoyed [for that long].”

The former co-host of KATV’s Good Morning Arkansas joined the staff as a general assignment reporter in 1990, and had been anchoring the station’s morning newscast since August of last year.

Smith’s last day was Friday, April 30. She said she resigned to become the new communications director for the Little Rock School District.

From the article:

“I hope to use the experience, my background and the insight I have gained over the years to support the mission of [the school district] and to make a difference for all of our students,” Smith said. “I am excited about the opportunities ahead.”

The Emmy award-nominated Smith’s departure is a continuing trend among broadcasters who end up moving from journalism to the public relations field.

There’s no word on when she starts her new venture.
