Legendary Weatherman Celebrates 30 Years in Southwest Florida
In CBS, Florida, Ft. Myers-Naples, Weather on May 8, 2012 at 11:03 amMeteorologist Jim Farrell has recently hit a bit of a milestone for those who work in television news: he’s been working in local TV for 30 years.
News-Press.com reports Farrell was originally hired at WBBH-TV in 1982 and moved to WINK-TV a decade later. He’s been there ever since and has held the position of chief meteorologist for at least the last decade.
Birmingham Met: Tornado Siren Mentality Could “Cost Lives”
In ABC, Alabama, Birmingham, Weather on March 18, 2012 at 11:12 amMeteorologist James Spann, known for his severe weather coverage throughout the state of Alabama, criticized the warning system used by many to alert countless residents of severe weather.
He told NPR in an interview earlier this week that people can become too reliant on sirens.
“In the siren mentality, it’s the idea that you’re always going to hear a tornado siren before a tornado strikes,” Spann said in the article. “And I believe it’s a farce.”
Former Alabama Meteorologist Snags Maryland Job at CBS Affiliate
In Alabama, CBS, Hirings, Huntsville-Decatur, Weather on February 13, 2012 at 10:25 pmDan Satterfield will be the new chief meteorologist at CBS affiliate WBOC in Salisbury, M.D., according to multiple sources, including TVNewser.
Satterfield left WHNT in Huntsville, Ala., in December 2011. He had been with the station for 17 years.
Mississippi TV Station Gets New Chief Meteorologist
In CBS, Columbus-Tupelo-West Point-Houston, Hirings, Mississippi, NBC, Weather on January 29, 2012 at 7:44 amKeith Gibson, former chief meteorologist at FOX affiliate KEVN in Rapid City, S.D., is now the new chief meteorologist for WCBI-TV, the CBS affiliate for the Columbus-Tupelo-West Point-Houston market.
Gibson’s career has taken him through both Dakotas and the Mississippi Delta, where he once worked at WABG, an ABC affiliate.
Gibson replaces Rob Smith, who’s been at the station for 18 years. A Facebook update on the station’s weather page states Smith is leaving to “concentrate on his studies” as he returns to school, but Smith will be around to fill in from time to time.
New Chief Meteorologist Named for North Mississippi Station
In CBS, Columbus-Tupelo-West Point-Houston, Hirings, Mississippi, NBC, Weather on March 2, 2011 at 3:50 pmMatt Laubhan will be the new chief meteorologist at WTVA-TV, the NBC affiliate for the Tupelo-Columbus-West Point-Houston market, effective next month.
Laubhan currently serves as the chief meteorologist at the CBS affiliate KLBK in Lubbock, Texas.
