Parent Company of Ft. Myers Station Sees Increase in TV Revenue Partly From Retrans Fees

Media conglomerate Journal Communications reported a 7.5 percent increase in its first quarter revenue from television stations in the period that ended March 25.

That’s a $2 million increase over last year, according to TVNewsCheck.com.

LIN TV, Cable Provider Cox Reach Retrans Agreement at 11th Hour

Mere hours before stations in five states, including Alabama, were slated to disappear from cable provider Cox Communications, a deal was reached to continue programming under a new retransmission agreement.

As we reported last month, the removal of those stations threatened two stations within the South TV News area, Mobile, Ala.-Pensacola, Fla., FOX affiliate WALA-TV and CW affiliate WFNA-TV.

LIN TV Will Pull Florida, Rhode Island Stations From Cox Lineup Unless It Gets More Money

LIN Television Corporation will pull four stations from cable provider Cox Communications unless the two can negotiate a new retransmission agreement by March 1.

FierceCable reports the cable company will lose Mobile, Ala.-Pensacola, Fla., FOX affiliate WALA-TV and CW affiliate WFNA-TV, according to statements already posted to the stations’ websites.

DISH Network Says Big Easy FOX Affiliate Too Expensive, Pulls Channel From Lineup

Those who live in New Orleans and subscribe to DISH Network won’t be seeing any WVUE broadcasts anytime soon, because the satellite provider is accusing the FOX affiliate of being “unreasonable in its demands.”

Local TV blog TVSpy reports WVUE is asking for up to 300 percent in affiliate fee increases, according to a statement from a DISH Network senior VP.

Sunbeam Stations Reach Transmission Agreement With DirecTV In Time For Super Bowl

Two stations which have been in contract disputes with satellite provider DirecTV since Jan. 13 will now be carried, just in time for Super Bowl XLVI.

WHDH-TV in Boston and WSVN in Miami are owned by Sunbeam Television Corporation.

On Thursday, WHDH general manager Chris Wayland released a statement.

Alabama FOX Station Could Go Black Unless Agreement Is Reached

LIN Media, with stations in six states across the eastern U.S., has announced to viewers of its stations that a potential blackout could come this week unless their parent company reaches a new retransmission agreement with COX Communications.

TVSpy reports this week that nine stations are at risk, including two in the southeast: FOX affiliate WALA and CW affiliate WFNA. These two stations are in the Mobile, Ala.-Pensacola, Fla., market.
