Parent Company of Ft. Myers Station Sees Increase in TV Revenue Partly From Retrans Fees

Media conglomerate Journal Communications reported a 7.5 percent increase in its first quarter revenue from television stations in the period that ended March 25.

That’s a $2 million increase over last year, according to TVNewsCheck.com.

Journal Communications owns 14 television stations across the U.S., including Ft. Myers-Naples FOX affiliate WFTX.

Part of this revenue increase came from local (2.6 percent) and national advertising (18.1 percent), but the biggest percentage increase came from retransmission revenue (28 percent).

Profits from retrans fees increased a half-million dollars from 1Q 2011 to 1Q 2012.
