Sunbeam Stations Reach Transmission Agreement With DirecTV In Time For Super Bowl

In Florida, Miami-Ft. Lauderdale, NBC, Retransmission on January 29, 2012 at 8:45 am

Two stations which have been in contract disputes with satellite provider DirecTV since Jan. 13 will now be carried, just in time for Super Bowl XLVI.

WHDH-TV in Boston and WSVN in Miami are owned by Sunbeam Television Corporation.

On Thursday, WHDH general manager Chris Wayland released a statement.

From WHDN.com:

“We are pleased that we reached an agreement with DirecTV, and we appreciate our viewers’ patience during this tough negotiation.”

Many may remember Sen. John Kerry jumping into the fray last week, writing on behalf of the Boston station (and indirectly Miami, I’m sure).

A portion of that letter, courtesy of TVSpy:

“To alleviate the anxieties of so many Patriots fans, I strongly urge you both to issue a public statement that your current retransmission consent dispute will not include blacking out the Super Bowl. If people in Boston miss the Super Bowl this year because of this dispute, I can assure you that it will lead more and more people to throw up their hands and say, ‘a pox upon both of their houses.'”

Never thought I’d see Sen. Kerry write about a retrans issue. Wait, wait…it’s about football. Now it makes sense.
