Did Meteorologist Quit Florida Station After Being Passed Over For Chief?

Meteorologist Dave Cocchiarella, a familiar face in many Orlando households for more than a decade, left Central Florida News 13 last week, according to Florida News Center.

The cable-only station, owned by Bright House Networks, released this short statement:

“Dave Cocchiarella chose to no longer be with News 13. We wish him the best in his future endeavors.”

Speculation about why he left continues, though.

Lafayette Morning Anchor Calls It Quits After 20 Years

Longtime Baton Rouge Anchor To Retire Next Week

After 25 years at the helm of WAFB-TV in Baton Rouge, news anchor George Sells has decided to retire at the end of the month.

The Baton Rouge Morning Advocate reports Sells joined the CBS affiliate in 1988 as the evening news anchor.

In a time where local sports is considered a dying art in many television markets, Fort Smith, Ark., CBS affiliate KFSM-TV has fired sports reporter Mike Irwin and chosen not to renew sports director John Engleman’s contract.

ArkansasOnline.com reports Irwin had worked at the station for 37 years, while Engleman started in 2009.

Birmingham Morning Anchor Announces He’s Leaving TV News

After two decades as a familiar face among those who work and live in the Birmingham, Ala., area, WBRC morning show anchor Rick Journey has announced he’s leaving the station and the business next month.

Journey began his career at the station in 1992, working in the Tuscaloosa newsroom. He would then move on to covering state politics in Montgomery.

Montgomery Evening Anchor To Retire After 35 Years In The Business

He’s been a mainstay in Montgomery, Ala., homes since the mid-1970s. But on June 1, longtime WSFA news anchor Bob Howell will retire.

An article on WSFA’s website states Howell started at the Montgomery-Selma NBC affiliate in 1976, anchoring the 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts, as well as foreign assignments in England, France and Kuwait. After leaving the station in 1998, Howell returned six years later to the evening anchor slot.

Longest-Tenured Reporter at Tampa Station to Retire

Don Germaise, reporter for Tampa-St. Petersburg, Fla., ABC affiliate WFTS, has announced he will retire from the station after 18 years.

The Tampa Bay Times reports Germaise was the first reporter hired at WFTS in 1994, shortly after the news department debuted there.

Legendary Gainesville TV Personality Resigns Because of “Family Reasons”

Bob Williams, noon anchor and promotions manager with WCJB-TV, has resigned effective March 30.

The 56-year-old Williams told the Gainesville Sun his decision was not because of any problems at the station, but rather family issues that prompted the choice.

Little Rock Morning Anchor Signs Off After 21 Years

Longtime morning anchor Pamela Smith has ended her career at Little Rock-Pine Bluff ABC affiliate KATV after 21 years at the station.

In a farewell article on the station’s website, Smith said she felt “tremendously blessed to have been in a field that I have enjoyed [for that long].”
