After a twenty-year legacy with ABC affiliate KATC in Lafayette, La., anchor Tom Voinche announced last week he will retire from the station.

In an article published on KATC.com, Voinche looked back on his legacy.

“What a wonderful 20 years it has been,” Voinche said. “I appreciate the opportunity to have been a part of the KATC family, learning much, and working with very talented people.”

What was most important to him? The viewers.

“Without their support, my TV3 career would have been very brief,” Voinche said.

His tenure as anchor on KATC’s Good Morning Acadiana made him a household name in the area.

“How do you tell someone ‘thank you’ for teaching you so much and making you laugh the whole time you were learning?” GMA co-anchor Tracy Wirtz said in the article. “I only hope I can carry on the tradition of spreading smiles as easily and expertly as Tom has.”

The show’s meteorologist, Dave Baker, shared a humorous story where part of Baker’s job interview for the station involved a hundred-mile tour of Acadiana, led by Voinche.

It must have had an impact; Baker’s been with the ABC affiliate since 1994.

Voinche said he plans to explore the U.S. with his wife, but will still call Acadiana home.

Godspeed, Tom. We wish you all the best.
