Arkansas Native Returns Home As New Meteorologist For Fort Smith

She’s a graduate of Arkansas State University and a Jonesboro native. And next week, Laura Huckabee will officially join the on-air staff of 40/29 News Sunrise next week, on May 14.

Huckabee will be the morning meteorologist for KHBS/KHOG-TV, the Fort Smith-Fayetteville-Springdale-Rogers market ABC affiliate.

Time for new smiling faces at one Little Rock, Ark., station. Well, okay, at least one.

Popular blog Arkansas TV News reports Jocelyn Tovar, former crime and courts reporter for KTXS in Abilene, Texas, will be a new general assignment reporter for KARK, the NBC affiliate for the Little Rock-Pine Bluff market.

Memphis Fill-In Met Gets First Gig in Arkansas

Brittany Bell, a fill-in meteorologist for WMC-TV in Memphis, Tenn., has been hired by ABC/CW affiliates KHBS/KHOG-TV as a meteorologist/reporter in theĀ Fort Smith-Fayetteville-Springdale-Rogers market.

Bell will anchor the station’s weathercasts on weekends and report during the week, according to a press release provided to Arkansas TV News.

Statewide Newscast Planned for Arkansas Stations

Four Arkansas stations owned by Nexstar Broadcasting will soon be pooling their resources together to provide content for a statewide newscast that will also air on the four stations.

TVNewser reports KARK in the Little Rock market, KNWA in the Fort Smith-Fayetteville-Springdale-Rogers market, KTVE in the Monroe, La.-El Dorado market and KTAL in Texarkana will air the newscast at noon, titled “Arkansas Today.”

Little Rock Morning Anchor Signs Off After 21 Years

Longtime morning anchor Pamela Smith has ended her career at Little Rock-Pine Bluff ABC affiliate KATV after 21 years at the station.

In a farewell article on the station’s website, Smith said she felt “tremendously blessed to have been in a field that I have enjoyed [for that long].”

Two Members of Management, EP Gone from Little Rock Station

Arkansas NBC Affiliate Gets New News Director

KARK-TV, the NBC affiliate for the Little Rock, Ark., market, has hired Austin Kellerman as the station’s news director to start next Monday.

He replaces Rob Heverling, who had been with the station for seven years.

Kellerman previously worked as news director for KTAB-TV and KRBC-TV in Abilene, Texas, and also worked as an executive producer at KTAL-TV in Shreveport, La.

Veteran Louisiana Newsman Decides To Leave the Biz

After nearly three decades in the homes of many in northeastern Louisiana, KNOE-TV anchor John Denison will be leaving the station at the end of the month.

The News Star reports Denison first joined the CBS affiliate for the Monroe, La.-El Dorado, Ark. market in 1981, working there for 11 years. He then joined rival NBC affiliate KTVE-TV and worked as a news anchor there for 7 years.

Throw in a three-year break to work for non-profit agencies, and a re-hire by KNOE 9 years ago, and you have quite the history for the 55-year-old Denison.

McKay Takes Top Tier Management Position at Shreveport NBC Affiliate

Mark McKay will be the new vice president and general manager for KTAL-TV, the NBC affiliate for the Shreveport, La.-Texarkana, Texas market, Nexstar Broadcasting announced today.

The hire brings McKay full circle, because he actually began his broadcasting career at KTAL in 1980 as a news anchor/reporter.

Former Arkansas Weatherman Will Not Be Charged in Hot Tub Death

Even though the appearance of guilt more than likely cost him his job, former Little Rock meteorologist Brett Cummins will not be charged in the September 2011 death of his friend, 24-year-old Dexter Williams.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports former KARK employee Cummins was found beside Williams in a hot tub on Labor Day. Investigators found traces of blood in the hot tub, but no water was present.
