An Austin news director with Little Rock ties has left NBC affiliate KXAN after the station found itself in legal trouble earlier this month.

But it’s unclear whether or not Michael Fabac, who had also been ND at Little Rock’s KLRT, left voluntarily.

Two lawsuits filed against the station — one from a former weekend morning meteorologist — have sent shockwaves through the building.

Austin360 reports former KXAN employee Rhonda Lee says in court documents that she was terminated in August 2011 after being “repeatedly subjected to crude and insensitive remarks about her race.”

Lee said that racial discrimination even extended into the station’s promotional advertisements, from where she claims she was conspicuously absent.

In legal documents, Lee said the station’s reasoning behind that was simply because “she was not marketable to the audience the company was trying to reach, which was Caucasian males.”

She said she was terminated after she did not keep quiet about the alleged bias against her from station personnel.

The second, unrelated lawsuit seeks damages from a story a Texas woman deemed hurtful.

Lee currently works at KTBS in Shreveport, La.

Fabac has not been rehired since his dismissal from KXAN.

An article on TVSpy earlier this month cited insiders as saying employee morale was at an all-time low under the news director.
