New Orleans CBS affiliate WWL-TV has hired from within to fill its sports director opening, tapping Northshore Bureau Chief Doug Mouton to the position.

Mouton, who’s been bureau chief since 2006, will anchor all weeknight sportscasts and supervise sports coverage, according to a news release from WWLTV.com.

But that’s not all.

In addition, former New Orleans Saints safety Darren Sharper will serve as the station’s Saints football analyst.

Sharper’s analysis begins in August with training camp. A five-time Pro Bowler, Sharper played with the team during its 2010 Super Bowl run.

News director Bill Siegel said Mouton’s know-how made him a shoe-in for the position.

“Doug’s knowledge of sports, his contacts and experience give our organization a great individual to lead our coverage in this area,” Siegel said. “In addition to being a wonderful storyteller and tireless reporter, his personality and work ethic have been tremendous assets to our newsroom.”

Mouton replaces longtime sports director/anchor Jim Henderson, who retired earlier this year.

Congratulations to both Doug and Darren!
