Paul Mueller, an anchor at ABC affiliate WGGB in Boston until a year ago, has now reappeared on the broadcast news horizon, this time working in Tampa, Fla.

Popular Boston blog btvn reports Mueller started last week for Bay News 9, an independent station in the market. But why did he abruptly quit the business for a year? Alcoholism.

In fact, the blog (and Mueller’s own Facebook page) state he’s been sober one year last month.

Starting work as a reporter the second time around in a digital world can bring with it certain challenges, but Mueller wrote on his Facebook page that he’s “grateful and entirely humbled to be allowed to begin the next chapter of [his] career.”

It’s not very often one gets second chances in TV news, but Mueller has proven it can still be done.

Congratulations on the job and your sobriety, Paul!
