NBC has fired veteran WTVJ reporter Jeff Burnside over an edit made in the George Zimmerman 911 call, the one placed right before Zimmerman shot 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.

This is the second firing since the internal investigation into these deceptive edits began last month.

The Huffington Post reports an unidentified producer working on the “Today” show was also fired in early April.

The edits are similar, taking out a line which provided context to the 911 call and Zimmerman’s state of mind at the time.

From the Associated Press:

NBC’s “Today” show first aired the edited version of Zimmerman’s call on March 27. The recording viewers heard was trimmed to suggest that Zimmerman volunteered to police, with no prompting, that Martin was black: “This guy looks like he’s up to no good. He looks black.”

But the portion of the tape that was deleted had the 911 dispatcher asking Zimmerman if the person who had raised his suspicion was “black, white or Hispanic,” to which Zimmerman responded, “He looks black.”

Management at NBC Miami said in a statement the segment produced by Burnside also omitted the same question by the dispatcher.

An Emmy award-winning journalist, Burnside had worked for NBC Miami (WTVJ) since 1999.
