Citing a possible conflict of interest, WFTX anchor Amy Wegmann has announced she will take a leave of absence from the Ft. Myers-Naples FOX affiliate to concentrate on helping her husband’s bid for Congress.

Wegmann is married to Trey Radel. The leave allows her to stand at her husband’s side during the campaign without having to choose to be impartial by remaining at the station. It also helps the station’s political coverage stay–what’s that FOX slogan?–fair and balanced.

The Naples News reports Wegmann made the announcement last week.

From the article:

“I am very pleased that Fox 4 understands how important it is for me to support Trey while he runs for U.S. House of Representatives,” says Wegmann. “At the same time it allows Fox 4 to remain committed to coverage of this important election.”

WFTX vice president and general manager Judy Kenney said the move was “good for everybody,” but it’s unclear at this point whether or not the leave was paid.
