Well-known Nashville weatherman Bill Hall died earlier this week at the age of 65, the Daily News Journal reports.

Hall, who worked for NBC affiliate WSMV-TV for 31 years, became popular with his viewers through his calming voice and quirky sense of humor.

He started at the station as a weather reporter in 1974, moving up the ranks quickly. Despite a brief stint as a weekend news anchor in 1976, he became chief forecaster a year later.

It’s a title he carried until his retirement in 2005.

The exact date and cause of his death, however, remains unreleased at this time.

From the Daily News Journal:

Hall’s wife called the station to inform the staff of his death, associate producer Jessica Turri said. No specific details were released [concerning Hall’s death], though Turri said he had been hospitalized with an illness for the past several days.

Funeral arrangements for Hall are pending at this point.
