Authorities have now released the cause of death for Ken Ward, the former morning reporter for WSOC-TV in Charlotte, N.C., who was found dead in his home Jan. 4.
As South TV News reported earlier this year, 44-year-old Ward had been gearing up to start in Tampa, Fla., the next week for ABC affiliate WFTS-TV.
The Charlotte Observer reports Ward died of hypertensive heart disease, according to the Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner’s office.
Earlier published reports had cited natural causes, but the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s office withheld his cause of death until a determination could be made from further tests.
