If you grew up in the Chattanooga, Tenn., area from the 1950s through the 1980s, chances are you either saw or heard longtime news and radio personality Betty “Mac” McCullough Thomas.
She died Tuesday at the age of 84.
WRCB-TV reports Thomas moved to Chattanooga in 1947 and began at WDOD radio as a receptionist, but ended up establishing herself as one of the city’s first female radio hosts.
She worked at Channel 12 (now WDEF-TV) in the 1960s and joined WRCB as a midday host and news reporter in the 1970s.
From there, a career as product spokesperson lasted many years.
Thomas’ visitation will be held today at Chattanooga Funeral Home’s North Chapel, from 10 a.m. to noon.
Those who wish to share their wishes can do so at the funeral home’s website.
